NEW INFORMATION CONFIRMS THE IMPORTANCE OF WEARING MASKS

Dear patients, yoga students, and friends:

I have been doing some new research about the effect of wearing masks and this new information strongly confirms that wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing are essential in reducing the spread of Covid-19.  Here is a summary of what I have found that is very persuasive.

Initially doctors advised that masks were not very protective from the virus, but if you were coughing and sneezing, wearing a mask kept people around you safe.  The virus itself was small enough to pass through the mask, but droplets containing the virus could not.  I just found a very dramatic demonstration showing how many microscopic droplets we exhale just with normal speech.  Here is the link:  https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2007800  Click on the video and see how many droplets are present with normal speech, both with and without a mask.  The difference is quite striking.  Clearly a mask is reducing these tiny droplets even if you are contagious but not showing symptoms.

There was also a recent unintentional test of mask effectiveness.  Two hairdressers who had the infection wore masks while working on 139 clients, and none of these clients got the virus.  You can find this link here:  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/14/health/coronavirus-hair-salon-masks.html

Masks are not totally effective at protecting you from the virus but if people around you are wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and you wash your hands regularly, your risk of catching the virus is very low.

As an aside, I have been very concerned about the medical establishment’s partnership with the media in scaring people to get them to comply. I recognize their motivation but from my perspective, fear suppresses the immune system and makes a person more susceptible to getting the infection.

If you get regular chiropractic care to enhance your immune system, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, avoid sugar, exercise regularly, and meditate, your risk of getting sick is significantly less.  Even though living a healthy lifestyle reduces your risk, it is still important for those of us who are healthy to wear masks and take precautions to protect those who are not so healthy.

We are now wearing masks for safety

Dear Patients:

I have decided that we will start wearing masks to keep our patients and ourselves safe. Many of you have decided to wait to come in until after the quarantine. While I respect your decision, I want to emphasize that getting an adjustment is the most powerful thing that you can do to keep your immune system strong. In addition to wearing masks, we are sanitizing all surfaces, door handles, arm chair rests, etc. and I am sanitizing my hands between each adjustment. We are also only allowing two people in the waiting room at a time. Please reconsider. I am staying open because I want to be there for you patients to keep you healthy.

Khalsa Chiropractic staying open

Dear patients:

Many businesses are closing to reduce social contact and stop the spread of the virus.  We just closed the yoga center on the first floor of this building.  After careful consideration, I have decided to keep my office open for the time being.  I believe that getting an adjustment is the best way to strengthen your immune system and preventing you from getting the virus.  If you decide to cancel your appointment, please remember to call and let us know.

I am implementing some specific measures for the safety of my patients and Sat Mittar and myself:

  1. If you have any symptoms, please stay home. I will call you and do an adjustment over the phone.  I have been doing these adjustments on people who live far away for 30 years and it will help keep your immune system strong.
  1. No more than 2 people besides Sat Mittar will be in the waiting room at one time. If there are more than two people waiting, we will put the extra people in the 2nd adjusting room or the massage room or ask them to wait outside.
  1. Please bring a pillowcase or something to lay on the chiropractic table where you place your head and face. We have some gowns that we will use if you do not bring one.  The gowns are limited so please bring something with you if you can.  The gowns that we use will be washed every night.
  1. I will be using hand sanitizer between each adjustment.
  1. When I adjust our neck, you have the option of requesting that I do the adjustment with you face down. This is as effective as doing the adjustment face up.
  1. We will be sanitizing chiropractic tables, counters, doorknobs, etc. as often as possible.
  1. I have made the difficult decision to comb all of the food out of my beard!

These are strange times and if we stay calm and follow common sense measures, we will get through this together.  If I decide that we are closing the office I will let you know.
